MORE INFORMATION

The Target Cascading Tool (TCT) is an independent vehicle dynamics software tool that has been designed to simplify the vehicle dynamics development work by overcoming CAE process limitations, even for engineers with no CAE experience.

The TCT is designed following a well-thought engineering workflow and includes a simple and clear user interface that allows vehicle dynamics engineers to create the link between vehicle dynamics performance targets and component specifications.

This vehicle dynamics software is designed for the cascading of full vehicle targets into suspension K&C and tuning component specification using optimization techniques and a 10DOF vehicle dynamics model.

TCT (Target Cascading Tool) - FAQs

How to evaluate the dynamics performance of a vehicle with IDIADA’s Target Cascading Tool (TCT)?

IDIADA's Target Cascading Tool is a vehicle dynamics software application oriented to the vehicle development concept stage, which is of great help to vehicle dynamics engineers in the process of establishing the target vehicle’s dynamic performance.

This vehicle dynamics simulation software has a set of pre-set manoeuvres that deliver a series of metrics that indicate the degree of performance of the loaded vehicle model.

Once the simulation has been performed with the pre-set manoeuvres, engineers can obtain valuable results on whether the vehicle model meets the set target, or whether optimization is required.

How does IDIADA’s Target Cascading Tool (TCT) vehicle dynamics simulation software work?

The TCT vehicle dynamics software allows the introduction of all the vehicle target parameters obtained through benchmarking and target setting activities and to generate a simplified vehicle model. This model is based on Matlab and has 10 degrees of freedom defined with differential equations.

Once the vehicle model to be developed has been loaded into the tool, vehicle dynamics engineers can start the simulation and evaluate the vehicle model’s performance according to the pre-set manoeuvres.

The model parameters include the vehicle’s main dimensions, such as global mass and inertias; the main suspension characteristics such as wheel rate curve, antiroll bar properties and Kinematics & Compliance properties, tyre characteristics, and vehicle aerodynamics.

If overall vehicle target is not met, it will be necessary to vary the vehicle model parameters for optimization.

What vehicle performance metrics and goals does the Target Cascading Tool (TCT) evaluate?

IDIADA's vehicle dynamics software comprises a set of two handling manoeuvres and three comfort manoeuvres. All of them deliver a set of metrics that evaluate the steady state (SS) and transient lateral dynamics performance of the vehicle through steady-state constant velocity and step steer manoeuvres.

Regarding ride and comfort, the TCT tool evaluates them through a long bump event to consider the primary ride performance and, later, a deterministic event and a secondary road event for comfort at higher frequencies.
